nirWANNA?

I once asked a friend of mine, "What do you think salvation is?"
He replied, "A state of the soul when you already know the answer for your question."

I rever this friend. He never says things that need not be said.
He's the one that shouts "shut up!" whenever I cross the line with my friends or family...
He's the one that whispers "thank him/her" whenever someone does good for me...
He's the one that doesn't write posts like this... So I'll do it for him. Actually, I'll do it for myself.

I think, one can attain salvation by doing anything... I mean anything. (And doing absolutely nothing is included in anything) The extreme point that you reach while doing something is salvation. Let us look at this more objectively.
Suppose you do something you like doing very much. There is this moment while you are doing it when you internally feel really happy... ok this is not working... I'll elaborate...
Take an example. Say, You like erasing something that is written in pencil with an eraser. You like it very much. You saw a paper with something written in pencil and you don't need the paper. So, you start erasing stuff off it. It feels good. You tend to lose yourself doing it. You get detached of everything while doing it.(not erasing exactly.. anything that you really like doing) There is a point while you are erasing, when your heart (actually the soul) is the happiest. Pleasure comes from within. But this lasts for a really short time... about a second or even less. Some may not even realize this happiness. (I'll try to explain why some of us can't realise this happiness in another post)
So, this is the moment of bliss we all are actually craving for. We want a perfect world for this. We try to influence people for this. We work to improve ourselves for this. Slowly, if you keep improvising/practising your act of passion, this moment of bliss becomes a minute of bliss. Then after a few more blisses, it gets to an hour, then a day, and slowly as I suspect, it becomes stagnant.
After such an endeavor you tend to see the working of every gear in the universe in what you are doing. That is, the mind tends to open itself in these times of bliss and finally my theory is: you will attain bliss for eternity with an understanding of EVERYTHING that is perceivable by normal humans. But the fact remains... you need to find the passion and persevere throughout with a full and complete heart.
Hencewise, you can attain salvation through singing... through thinking or meditating (the age old technique)... through torturing yourself... and why not, even through other "so called" condemned stuff.

In the comments, please give ways in which you would like to attain nirvana.

P.S.: I can attain nirvana through writing this blog... who knows??? (I do have a passion for blogging btw)

  3. Nirvana is over rated, especially in India.
Do good to others as long as it does not hit bac at you.(If it seems out of context that is because I couldnt muster courage enough to read through your entire blog....sorry about that.)

  4. Biddala... do you really think you have a gauge enough to check if nirvana is over rated?

  5. i think i can elaborate enlightenment from a buddhist and comp sci prospective :D

1)universe thrives on uncertainity(uncertanity != randomness), this is so because the elements, laws of the universe are very loosely-coupled and hence there are way too many combinations. uncertainity lies in the lack of predicting these combinations to a 100%.

2)niravana according to the buddhist texts is basically trying to accept this uncertainity. the problem basically is this, we fundamentally do not accept uncertainity and our mind tries to bring in god, soul, love, morality, duty, power, moksha, faith ... so on into the picture and try to balance this uncertainity somehow and it will always miserably fail.

3)once you understand 2) and are able to understand life without ideals , and can live on the basis of 100% inner freedom you are in a state of nirvana.

what the buddha says is this,
our mind has become like a monkey constantly googling the universe for certainities and ideals and carrying out actions on that basis. nirvana is when there is no more any monkey and you google when you need to google for information, not as a premise for your actions. you should act out of true and utter inner freedom(read creativity) without any stupid ideals blocking your way. the only way to be in such a state, by constantly hitting the monkey and you taking over as the creative director of life.

  6. in total peace with 1,2 and 3.
The uncertainity is what you can call it. I just call it passion. or elsewise.. one stems from the other... totality of anything you know....
