B - Leaf

After quite some time, I again got the opportunity and the drive to sit down, contemplate and come up with some thought recipe. This time, it's about belief. That's right... belief - as in any cognitive content held as true.
Before we dive in, have a look at the illustration. Done? Read on....
The belief of someone in something or someone is based on either or both of the following:
1. Evidence
2. Confidence
Let us go by the generic senses of these words for now and try not getting into the exact definitions. I suggest this because, once we start evaluating and juxtaposing, the true definitions of these words would automatically emerge (or the theory would perish).
All the learning and knowledge base (often referred to as 'science') of the human race suggests that the direction of flow must start from evidence and end at confidence. You perceive something, you analyze it and start believing in the occurrence/ existence of such a thing and hence develop confidence regarding the same. This, as the process suggests, can be called "perception."
E.g.
1. You see a carrot. You perceive that the carrot is orange in color. After seeing a few more carrots, you start to believe that carrots are orange in color. After sufficient (again to be defined consequentially) observations, if someone comes along and asks you the color of a carrot, you will confidently say 'orange.'
2. Education

There also exists the opposite flow direction which is suggestive of the duality and hence the ambiguity of the universe. In this scenario, you develop confidence (inherent or induced) in something, start believing in its existence/ occurrence and hence, either by factuality or by illusion, find evidence to perceive. This can be called a "confidence trick." The word 'trick' in this phrase is merely indicative.
E.g. You acquire knowledge (build confidence) from various sources (books/mags/people etc.) that a particular place is beautiful/ scenic. You start believing that the place is beautiful/ scenic. You finally get the chance to visit the place and then find it to be 'beautiful/ scenic.'
2. Religion

That's all folks!

*Thanks to all my friends and close ones for making my 23rd birthday memorable. :-D

All is holy that starts holy!

This rush... This absolute rush of warmth, happiness and joy. I just could not let it pass. Such was the intensity. Such was the purity of its presence.

Dec. 14th 23:45 hours.
After having just vacated the house in Hosur, we (my room-mate and me) moved into the house above with Vikas and Prakash. After a tiring and already overwhelming day,
I decided to slip into the sweet state of unconsciousness confident that nobody here knew about what the coming day meant to me.
I felt a slight tinge of sorrow that I was not in a position to celebrate it with my loved ones.
Sivaprasad gets a call from someone and apparently the person(s) is waiting outside the door. So I see him open the door and some familiar voices came in. A minute
later I realised it was Umang. I lazily opened my eyes and saw Kiran and Umang gazing towards me from the bedroom door. What? KT and Umang? The guys who live almost 4 km. away? Here? Now? Why? Oh okok... my last day in Hosur.. maybe some quality time was all it was.
"adi, I need your hard disk yaaar... I'll return it to you in the morning before you leave," said KT. (really ? all the way till Anand Nagar just for a hard disk? wow this guy must really like movies)
I was hesitant. But hey, what's the big deal? Then he said "Hey let me first check out the movies and then I'll decide if I want it."
wow... ok "No problem", I said, a little bewildered. Something's not right.

Dec. 14th 23:55 hours.
I was sitting there proudly parading all my movies in the hard disk. He was definitely diggin it. The others... Umang, Vikas, Sivaprasad and Prakash walk in and drag me to the other bedroom.

Dec. 14th 23:58 hours.
Vikas's bedroom. A cute cake in the middle of his bed. Lighted candles. Me in front of it. Awesomeness. Tears of joy in my head.

Dec. 15th 00:00 hours.
I've completed 22 years. Cake is being smeared all over my face. And what have I learnt in these 22 gifted years?
FRIENDS DO NOT LET YOU FEEL EVEN THAT SLIGHTEST TINGE OF SORROW. Afterall I did celebrate with my loved ones. (It need not be the same loved ones every year. :P)

Thanks to Umang for the perseverance in bringing the act together.
Thanks to Kiran for the patience in distracting me.
Thanks to Vikas for the choreography of the act.
Thanks to Sivaprasad for the 5.5 months of Hosur thrills.
Thanks to Prakash for the support and wishes.
A huge thanks to the world for existing.

Madikeri

There were times when the roads feared the tyres
There were times when the steering wheel made more than 4 turns
There were times when the shock absorbers stretched the other way
And there were times when we experienced just as much gravity as there is on the moon
Kudos to that driver in COORG

Cool it was, with pleasant fragrances
Overwhelming it was, with beautiful ranges
Outdoors were like the breeze of bliss
Rugged roads and crude nature stirred up passions
Great experiences and exuberance --> hill stations

and coming soon..... Jiddu's thought plunged into my consciousness.

Revering Rev

It was about 44 degrees outside... The heat was killing me... I was riding on my middle-class, less luxurious, high mileage-yielding bike on the six lane road. The hot puffs of air hitting my face made me want to just quit driving and find some shade to simply lie down. I had quite a distance to go and my speed startled me. The traffic light was about to turn red and there were two cars ahead of me. These cars were in front of me for the past half an hour. Both were built for vrooming speeds and looked like hot super models of the car-world.
I had to get past these cars at any cost or I would be stuck there for the next 65 seconds without movement. So, I recklessly squeezed my slimbie between the two awesome upholstry clad beasts and zoomed past them just escaping when the signal was
orange.
Aahhh.... freedom.... finally ... I was able to ride in the second gear!
I pitied all those other motorists who had to stay there on a beautiful, smooth, six-lane track and yet not even move an inch because of the typical muscle fatiguing Hyderabadi traffic jam with hot polluted air all around them.
:(
There is some form of incompetence in our inspirational methodology...
1. We bring a Volvo bus but do not maintain the roads for it.
2. We bring an alcoholic cool culture but do not know the likes of it.
3. We mimic a slang but can't pull it off.

*For hell's sake, we elect a leader and do not even bother to check if he/she is doing his/her job.

PS: Boredom reigns!

Pheeld Tryp

Did you ever feel that the education system in India is more classroom oriented than practical? A Japanese student starts to experiment and assemble stuff like watches, gears etc. at the age of 10. A tenth standard student in India on the other hand does huge mind numbing problems on capacitors, not realizing that condensors and capacitors are the same or that they can be found even in a normal fan!
While some of the bureaucrats might beg to differ, me and my many friends are on the same page here... The page where you see the picture of a fresh creative mind being squashed to shit by useless, impractical and outdated ideas. Yet, in this hell-hole of the Indian pedagogical system, there are some worthwhile people who care enough to go out of their way and show their students what they are actually gulping down their intellectual guts. It is because of profs/teachers like these that some of the institutions manage to gain an edge.
We were recently out on a trip to visit NTPC in Dadri. Around 28 students including 3 profs (Dr. P Srinivasan being one of them) embarked on this educational tour which took one whole day. I would like to narrate to you all, my experience of this fabulous journey*.
The bus started from Pilani at around 11:00pm on 11th Feb. 2010. Pagadala and Bijjam were the two most familiar faces to me throughout. We shared ipods, cracked jokes on every god damn thing in the universe, slept on each others' shoulders and mumbled profanity about the rash driver together. We finally reached Dadri (close to noida) at about 6 am on the 12th. The accomodation wasn't great but very huge and very tiny people adjusted quite well. :) Rahul and I loitered around the acco. making up stories of comic escapades. (we both are quite creative on that note... but this post is definitely not one of those)
Everyone got back on their feet by 8:15am and we all had breakfast which resembled our mess food in so many ways that some of us were internally crying.
We finally got to the plant at around 9:30. It was a coal based thermal power plant having four 210MW boilers and one 490 MW boilers adding up to a total of 1030 MW. (one more 490 boiler was yet to be inaugurated) We were taken around and shown almost every significant component of the plant which was quite overwhelming because
- most of us never expected to see something, that is a prospective 15 mark question in a cdc comprehensive exam, live!
- all of us felt so puny in front of these gigantic metallic power-beasts that made noise enough to wake you up from your deepest slumbers.
After a three hour tour around the plant we reached the NTPC plant canteen to have a bite and guess what was waiting there.... BLOODY MESS FOOD! Though the food was "healthy and sufficient" we were all happy for the fact that the trip was in keeping with what we had imagined. After a little bit of resting in the lawns outside the canteen, we were taken to GT-ST combined cycle plant which was of 829MW capacity. This was a more state-of-the-art power plant and was very interesting. We were told that it runs on CNG (compressed natural gas) or HSD (diesel). The plant was much more compact and sophisticated than the coal based one. After a lot of questioning, understanding, discussion and agreement, we moved on to a place called the "ash-mound". Ash from the coal plant was heaped into the shape of a small hill near the plant and vegetation was grown on it which made it look like a beautiful picnic garden. Everyone played on swings and other child-play equipment there, which made our profs wonder if we were really mature enough to understand the seriousness of the trip. Nag became the lead and the explorer on the mound and was at the peak of his analytical and observational abilities (for a not-to-be-named girl) while Rahul followed around with his ever-green poise and calm.
Calling it an awesome day, we all started back at around 5pm, had some tasty and non-mess like food on the way and reached Pilani at 1:30am on the 13th.

*though the journey was really good, I did miss out on the batch snaps of my wingies... sorry guys and thx for the cool pics at my batch snaps. :)

Where are the cameras?

So my dad and I were on the road the other day near Ashok Gardens (Bowenpally.. plz no lol). Suddenly my dad got very slow. He pulled over and stopped to the side of the road near an electrical shop. I started wondering if it was for another bulb for the verandah or something. The thought itself kind of made me dull. But my dad said "Choodu road meeda ela mekulu posaro daridrulu". (Look at the nails on the road...) I was bewildered. It was true. There were around 15 - 20 nails each about 2.5" long scattered all over the place. Some of them were even bent. Moreover that road was kind of a junction where atleast 50 vehicles pass-by every minute.

My dad said - "Start picking them up. But be cautious of the traffic." And he started collecting the nails, maneuvering through the traffic clogged area. Some of the drivers were even annoyed. I was not sure what he was doing. Is he serious? Will he be using those nails or something? Anyway, overcoming my embarrassment and shy, I picked up a nail that was lying nearby. My dad returned in about 2 minutes with some 10 nails in his hands. Two passers-by also brought some nails and gave them to me as if I were the government appointed Chief-road-nail-collector! But they were definitely inspired by my dad, I felt. One guy, on an age-old Bajaj Chetak, stopped and said to my dad while handing over another nail to him- "Chutiya loga hain saab. Aap aaj nikaloge toh phir bhi kal yehi haalat hogi!" (gist: Don't bother to pick 'em up. The condition will be the same tomorrow again) It was like one of those love thy nation-advertisements. (Except my dad is not a very big fan of India himself) I kind of felt proud of my dad.

Here's the real kicker. I later found out from a pani-puri chat wallah that those nails were actually put there, by some of the mechanic shop guys. It made so much more sense. I took a look around and not just very far away, were strewn some 10 different shops which repaired punctured tyres and jammed motors. "Nailed it" I thought! Does such decrying aftermath exist only in India? - I wondered...

(Comments really needed for this one)

Peer-o-philia

My birthday... I dread it now

My wingies... I hate them now

My campus... I want to destroy it now

My graduation times.., I want to erase those memories now

My life... I want to end it now

<----------------------------------------------------------->

My birthday... I dread it coz it can't be as good as it was this year.

My wingies.. I hate them coz they made me realize the sweetest forms of friendship and now I can't relish smaller things

My campus... I want to destroy it coz I'm too jealous to let more people enjoy such awesomeness

My graduation times... I want to erase those memories coz I know the nostalgia will kill me

My life... I want to end it coz I can't re-live the last four years ever again!

Dedicated to all my wingies, who celebrated my birthday in the best possible way on the 14th of December, 2009, @ 23:20hrs, near Sardar Patel statue - BITS Pilani.

The symphony of irony

10 things you're NOT obliged to do in my university...

1. Study and expect a good grade

2. Not study and expect a bad grade

3. Check your mail/scrap/post/comments etc. with a decent net speed

4. Think that the factor of luck in your accomplishments is feeble

5. Assume that you will be sufficiently exposed to the opposite sex

6. Think that you'll definitely be placed in the company which requires the skills you've acquired through your degree

7. Expect voluptuousness

8. Think that you'll be productive in some way or the other

9. Take it for granted that value is only added and not stripped

10. To think that the hierarchy will be able to appreciate expressions like this post...

Of course there are more like sophomore year fun, good food etc., but you can add them in the comments. :D

Epiphany

Time: 20:26
Place: Hostel room in BITS Pilani
Ventilator and window: Fully open

Cool air was brushing my body as I peacefully crouched on my bed. The song called Marudani (A R Rahman's album Sakkarakatti) was playing in my comp. I switched the lights off and the moonlight was the sole illuminating factor. No tensions in mind, no tests, no responsibilities, no fights, no grudges... Everything was so really nice. The moment was beautiful, I thought. Then I thought, 'for how long can I keep cherishing such moments?' A lifetime at the most. Then??? ... no idea. What if I achieved a lot? Would that really be changing the fact that I can't enjoy my accomplishments forever? So what is it that I/anyone for that matter, can do to have something for eternity? Salvation... any other answers... I really wish there were... (btw if you do, plz lemme know)

Then comes the next mind-chewing question, "Is there really a state called salvation?" Yes there is. No there isn't. J Krishnamoorthy's book said "The answers are probably right here." It also said "You enjoy the moment and then you also partially enjoy recollecting that enjoyment. So you start pursuing the moment and its joy again but then you end up in despair..." Oh my god, that man thought a hell lot about life. Do try reading some books like that. Your perspectives will be appreciated by yourself...

My point however, is to make you all think for a while about 'what is going on.. and for what?' Don't slam your brains too much about this however... just explore your grey matter!

More on this making its way....

Prelude to donno what.

I am back on campus in pilani and life is pretty much amusing.
People are starting to look pretty capable and prepared, probably because we're all in the final year of our odyssey. It is with this perspective that I intend to give an account of the life that we share here.
The day starts with sunrise. It might seem hard for you guys to believe that a bitsian wakes up at sunrise but the constraint here is electricity. With the already sultry atmosphere, imagine how you would wake up if the fan is off at 7 in the morning. Not able to imagine? Your responsive body starts to sweat profusely, all the liquids out of you and the place where your body is in contact with the mattress gets super damp=>eventually waking you up with an irritating, sticky feel. The reason for all this is a power shut down from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm everyday. So the next time you get angry at the world because your A.C. is not functioning properly... balls to you!
People (woken up by the same procedure) slowly start to come out of their rooms like a bunch of cockroaches after a pesticide treatment. Bothered people start attending classes while the others find ways to live lives. Time flows by and just as the clock strikes five, people again assemble in the bhavan(hostel) to chat away an hour into the power-having part of their lives. Computers are switched on, lan hubs are activated, songs are played, movies are watched, stuff is done, games are played and campus life is gulped in. Screams like "mess", "khana", "dinner", "abey join 10.72", "******" become significant at around 7pm, when all of us are mobilised to the mess. Long conversations about international issues, celebrities, profs and courses, girls etc. follow dinner. People slowly start to disperse and from then on the pre-course for a fresh day with a prejudiced outlook is experienced. :)

Could it be anymore blank?

How many times have you fainted?
If your answer is zero... this post will definitely be of some value to you. And those of you who have become unconscious atleast once in your life, let me know if it felt the same.

First of all, why am I describing this to you? So that you don't say "what the **** was that?" if you happen to faint in the future and ofcourse because I did faint.

It happened when I was down with Typhoid in my 11th standard. The good-for-nothing doctor didn't detect my illness as Typhoid. So, she prescribed antibiotics one after the other which lead to my losing most of my energy and resistence. I had constant high fever and had to pop in a paracetamol every now and then just to keep the temp. around 100F. Food tasted like medicine and medicine tasted like shit. Gradually, I found it difficult even to walk around.
Finally the day arrived when I had the least energy. I forced myself to stand up... coz i had to take a whiz (one of the two things I had to get up for!). Then, the little blood I had rushed down from my head or the heart just couldn't give the required pressure ... I don't know what happened .... but I just closed my eyes, barely noticing that my mother was running towards me....and.......
....... Blankness .......
I had no idea how long I was like that. Finally I opened my eyes and felt a little different. The difference was that I was standing when passed out and was laid down on the bed when I opened my eyes. By the way ... like in the movies, you won't get a blurry picture first and then a clear image of people around you. My vision was clear and in a way thrilling. Thrilling coz only then had I realized that I had been unconscious all this while.
My parents later told me that I had been in this state of unconsciousness for about 5 mins.

Now on... if you want to reach a state of complete blankness, don't meditate. Just faint!
